The Honley Workshop
From master craftsman to apprentice — the people behind every Oak & Pine commission, all working from one workshop in Honley.

— Daniel Fitzpatrick — Owner & Master Craftsman in the Honley workshop
Owner & Master Craftsman
Guild of Master Craftsmen member · Apprenticed 1995
Daniel began learning woodcraft in 1995, serving his apprenticeship with a respected Yorkshire wood-turning company. That grounding still shapes the Oak & Pine by Design workshop today: practical skill, exacting standards and a clear belief that good customer service matters as much as the finished piece.
In 2016, Daniel was accepted into the Guild of Master Craftsmen, gaining official recognition for the quality of his work. He continues to lead each commission with the same attention to detail, from handmade kitchens and fitted furniture to restoration and one-off woodcraft projects.
Traditional wood turning is an increasingly rare trade, and Daniel sees part of his role as protecting that knowledge. Through Oak & Pine by Design's workshop and apprenticeships, he passes on both traditional and modern joinery techniques to the next generation of Yorkshire craftspeople.

— Kai — Workshop Manager at Oak & Pine by Design
Workshop Manager
Fully trained skilled employee · Workshop Manager
Kai joined Oak & Pine by Design as an apprentice and has grown into a fully trained, skilled member of the team. Today, as Workshop Manager, he helps keep the Honley workshop moving with the care, pace and consistency every bespoke commission needs.
His role reaches across the practical detail of the business — from handmade furniture, kitchens and wardrobes to fitting, finishing, restoration, stripping and fine paint spraying. Kai is trusted to carry Daniel's standards through the day-to-day flow of the workshop and into clients' homes.
He also supports the apprentices coming through behind him, sharing the habits, patience and workshop discipline that turn raw skill into dependable craftsmanship. Kai is a valued part of the team and central to how Oak & Pine by Design works today.

— Oliver — third-year Apprentice Craftsman at Oak & Pine by Design
Apprentice Craftsman
Third and final apprenticeship year · Progressing toward full employment
Oliver is now in his third and final year of apprenticeship with Oak & Pine by Design. From the start, he showed real promise in woodturning, giving Daniel good reason to spend extra time helping him develop this increasingly rare craft.
He has also made strong progress in furniture building and restoration, along with stripping and paint spraying. Each year in the workshop has added practical confidence, sharper technique and a clearer understanding of the standards expected from every Oak & Pine commission.
The aim is for Oliver to move into full employment with the team after completing his apprenticeship. For now, he remains focused on learning the trade properly and building the foundations of a long-term craft career.
